Linia Kolejowa 182

DYSTEN provided a comprehensive voice and visual passenger information system as part of the project “Revitalization and Reconstruction of the Partially Closed Railway Line No. 182 Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie”. The investment aims to enhance the availability of rail transport in northern Silesia and improve the quality of travel for passengers. The modernization and reconstruction of the railway line will facilitate connections between urban agglomerations and Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport.

Railway Line No. 182 – New stops and dynamic passenger information system

The project included the reconstruction of the railway line, the modernization and electrification of the section, and building new stops and stations. As part of the task, new stops were created: Miasteczko Śląskie Centrum, Mierzęcice, Zawiercie Kądzielów, and the two-platform Pyrzowice Airport station. The line is equipped with CSDIP devices, such as edge displays, entrance platform displays, or multifunctional Infokiosks, supplied by DYSTEN.

The public address system, time signaling system, train presence sensors, passenger displays, and information systems were installed at the following railway stops and stations:

  • Passenger Stop Miasteczko Śląskie
  • Pyrzowice Airport Station
  • Passenger Stop Mierzęcice Łubne
  • Siewierz Station
  • Poręba Station
  • Zawiercie Kądzielów Passenger Stop
  • Zawiercie Station

Scope of DYSTEN’s work as a contractor on the Dynamic Passenger Information System Project

Production, delivery, assembly, configuration, and commissioning of the Central Dynamic Passenger Information System devices in accordance with the guidelines of PKP PLK (IPI-6), including:

Passenger Information System:

  • 44 Edge Displays
  • 12 multifunction displays (single/double-sided)
  • 4 p collective station displays
  • 8 Entrance Platform Displays
  • 10 station clocks
  • 30 Train Motion Sensors
  • Operator workstations at 7 locations

Elements of the public address system at each of the 7 locations:

  • Broadcast System Controllers
  • Amplifiers
  • Microphone Desks
  • Speakers
  • ANS sensors (ambient noise level sensors)
  • Induction loops
  • Additional simulations and acoustic measurements

All devices of the Dynamic Passenger Information System and the Public Address System have been integrated with the Central Application of the Dynamic Passenger Information System (CASDIP) of PKP PLK.

Visual Passenger Information

Entrance platform displays were installed in tunnels and near the entrances to the platforms at the Pyrzowice Airport and Zawiercie stations. They inform travelers about the next train departing from a given platform.

Edge displays installed at the Pyrzowice Airport and Zawiercie stations are an important element of the passenger information system, providing clear and transparent information about trains moving on the track adjacent to the edge of the platform. In addition to basic information such as departure time, destination station, way stations, type of train, carrier, train name, and possible delay, they can also present additional messages entered and approved by the operator. The angle of inclination at which the edge displays are mounted enhances visibility and makes it easier for travelers to read the presented information.

The platforms of the Zawiercie and Pyrzowice Airport stations are equipped with collective station displays showing the time of arrival and departure of trains, the destination station, major way stations, the platform number, the name of the carrier and possible delays in the timetable.

In all 7 locations, there are multifunctional Infokiosk displays that provide detailed current and future timetables. Infokiosks allow you to change the mode and scroll through the timetable using built-in buttons. They have the function of displaying information about arrivals and departures. The devices were placed in key passenger traffic areas, such as platforms and tunnels.

Station clocks have been installed to signal the time on the station platforms and stops. They receive information about the exact time from the NTP time server of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. This data is sent via the TCP/IP network using the NTP protocol.

Train presence sensors monitor the vehicles on the track. Placed at the edge of the platform, they detect a train stopping at the station. Information about train traffic is immediately sent to the Central Application for Dynamic Passenger Information Control. This allows the system to adjust the displayed messages on an ongoing basis, providing passengers with up-to-date data on train arrivals and departures.

Public Address System on platforms

A comprehensively designed public address system based on acoustic simulations is designed to reach every corner of the station with announcements. It covers the platform along its entire length and width, including access routes. The announcements inform passengers about planned arrivals, departures, delays, and possible changes in train routes, using data from the CASDIP PKP PLK system.

Along with the voice system in each of the 7 locations, DYSTEN provided the system controllers and microphone desks, which are necessary for the effective management of broadcasted information and for maintaining smooth communication with passengers.

Support for People with Hearing Loss

Induction loops are designed to facilitate communication with people with hearing loss while traveling. This way signals from the Dynamic Passenger Information System are received clearly and without interference.

Modernization of Railway Line No. 182 Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie

The project “Revitalization and Modernization of Railway line No. 182 Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie” included the modernization and electrification of a 46.1 km section of the line. A 30-kilometer section between Tarnowskie Góry and Siewierz, which had been out of service for thirty years, was rebuilt.

The platforms at the Tarnowskie Góry, Siewierz, and Poręba stations and 38 railway crossings were modernized. New railway stops were constructed and the road infrastructure was rebuilt, particularly near the A1 motorway and the regional road DW 913 connecting Będzin and Pyrzowice.

A key benefit of this investment is the enhancement of communication between urban agglomerations and Pyrzowice airport. The connection between Tarnowskie Góry, Pyrzowice and Zawiercie will contribute to increasing the availability of rail transport, and it will facilitate passenger and freight travel. Due to its close proximity to Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport, this connection will allow for more efficient integration of rail and air transport, providing travelers with a convenient option to reach the city from the airport.

The project “Revitalization and Modernization of Railway Line No. 182 Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie” was co-financed with PLN 503.1 million under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
